How to Raise a Respectful Child in a World That’s Too Casual
Posted: July 21, 2025
We live in a culture that’s become increasingly casual—with language, with behavior, even with values.
But at the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts, we teach something different: respect.
-
We bow before entering the mat.
-
We refer to instructors as "Sensei."
-
We thank our sparring partners.
This isn’t about tradition for tradition’s sake. It’s about teaching kids that showing respect isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of strength.
Respect creates better teammates, better students, and better future adults. And parents constantly tell us how it carries over into their home, their school, and even how their kids treat themselves.
