Karate Martial Arts Training for Kids
Posted: November 15, 2022
Karate is a great martial art for kids to train. There are many reasons you should get your child involved in a good Karate school. Before we get into the main reasons parents like to have their children train karate martial arts, let's briefly go over what Karate is.
Karate is an ancient Japanese martial art that combines striking techniques and kicking movements. It was developed in Okinawa during the 16th century by combining traditional Chinese fighting styles with Okinawan weapons training.
Here are just five reasons why you should consider training karate at a school near you.
Learn Self Defense Techniques.
Children who participate in our karate classes develop self-defense skills that help them stay safe at school and at home. In addition, they learn how to protect themselves from bullying.
Build Confidence.
We offer a variety of programs for kids ages 3 through 12 years old. Each class includes instruction in martial arts techniques, self-defense strategies, and character development.
Develop Discipline.
Children who practice martial arts develop discipline, self-confidence, and respect for others. In addition, they learn how to defend themselves when faced with bullying situations.
Learn Respect.
We offer classes for kids ages 3 through 12 years old. Classes are held at our studio located in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Become More Resilient.
Children who participate in martial arts programs tend to become more resilient and less likely to engage in risky behaviors. This is because they develop skills such as focus, concentration, and self-control. These skills help them deal with life's challenges.
And if those five were not enough here are a few more.
Better Grades.
Children that struggle with bad grades struggle with low self-esteem and week self-belief. When we can turn that around, in most every case, grades get better. When a child believes in themselves the sky is the limit.
Self-Control.
One of the biggest indicators of success is how much self-control a person has. The fact that you can do today and get tomorrow is a powerful lesson many people don't learn. This is built into every martial art. Nothing happens unless you learn to do, and put the time in. Then the reward. We call it dinner before dessert.
Focus.
Focus is a skill. Some kids have great focus, and some have little focus. But all kids can focus on something (think video games) the trick is to teach them how to focus on everything. A good karate or martial arts school will do that. In our school the first lesson after respect is, what focus is, how to focus, and how to improve it. It really is a trait that can be easily taught if you understand it.
Goal Setting
The process of achieving a karate belt is basically goal setting. When a child learns what they need to do to achieve the next belt, then they do it and get the belt, they just did an act of goal setting. Over time, with each belt, this starts to be a habit. I have watched kids set goals that most kids wouldn't even dream of and reach them. From getting into a certain collage, to getting a car, to going to Europe. All because goal setting was a system that they understood.
Conclusion.
Karate is a great martial art for kids. It really teaches so much more than just kicking and punching and yelling. Kids love the action, the energy, and the sport. It makes them feel like a superhero. They even get a uniform. Parents like it for all the life skills and positive traits the kid gets as a biproduct of their training. There really is nothing like a good martial arts program for children.
If you are interested in training, I would suggest that you visit as many schools as possible in your area and take a few trial lessons. You really need to see if the school follows your values. Putting a shy and insecure child in a very competitive and hard-core tournament school could do more harm than good. And you won’t know this without first visiting the schools near you.
After a visit most schools will let you try out a couple of classes for free or at a reduced cost. That way you and the school have a chance to get to know each other.
I hope you have found this useful and are a little closer to getting your child on the path of growth through a well-run martial arts program.
