Parents Spend 37 Hours a Week Worrying about their Children
Posted: October 27, 2022
Parents spend 37 hours a week worrying about their children. According to an article I read in the New York Post. What are some of the top worries?
- Is their child safe - 48%
- Is their child happy - 44%
- Child being bullied - 43%
- Getting good grades -39%
- Making friends- 27%
As a parent, I spend time worrying about my kids. It’s what parents do. But 37 hours? That is a bit extreme. Unless you have an issue with something that is too much worrying.
As parents what can we do to stop worrying so much about our children?
- Make sure they are prepared. Give them tools and solutions to potential problems.
- Communicate and listen. Make sure we have meaningful conversations with our children. This means listening to them and engaging with them.
- Keep communication lines open with the school, coaches, and teachers. Be one of those involved parents.
- Show up for your kids. Go to their after-school events, and watch their karate/dance lessons.
- Lead by example.
Most of the things we worry about don’t happen. Make sure you are not worried about things that are just made up in your head. But if it is a real concern the answer to worry is to do something about it.
