The 3 Ingredients of Every Confident Child
Posted: February 01, 2023
If you have ever wondered what confident children do that your child may not, this article is for you.
As a teacher, I noticed that confident children had 3 things in common. Even though they may be confident in different ways. They all shared these 3 traits.
Now I am talking about true confidence. Confidence that comes from the inside of the person.
Before I give you the 3 ingredients and how they work together to build a truly confident and successful child, let’s start with why confidence.
When a person is confident, they know what they can do, and they also know what they can’t do. They can judge situations better and act with insight. They know when to ask for help. A confident person is more relaxed when they start something new which helps them learn faster. A confident person can better chart their own success and needs less external guidance. They become more independent. Basically, they can make decisions that are positive for them and the people around them. They don’t fall prey to negative peer pressure, nor do they follow the wrong crowd.
Basically, a confident person often has more opportunities given to them.
So, what are the 3 ingredients that all confident people share?
- Self-belief
That’s right. They all believe in themselves. They don’t ask other people if they can do it. They don’t look for external proof. They know. They believe. Without self-belief, you can’t build a belief system that helps you succeed.
- Focus
Focus is the ability to stay on task and finish what you start. The ability to block out distractions and move forward with your goals. Focus is an ability, and it can be taught, it can be improved. Without focus, it is very hard to reach your goals.
- Discipline
Discipline is what keeps you going after the inspiration is gone. Without it, it is very hard to accomplish your goals and succeed.
Every child can become confident. They do that by learning what they can do and knowing their abilities. Learning how to focus on what is important. Finishing what they started and not giving up when it gets hard.
As parents we want our children to be successful. It’s up to us to make sure that they have the tools to use to become what they want to be. Keep your child positive and challenged. Make sure they are doing things that build their self-belief, increases their focus, and strengthen their discipline. This will go a long way in building their confidence.
