What do good grades have to do with Martial Arts?
Have you heard of the law of unintended consequences?
It simply states that there are consequences that may not have been intended.
When a student is struggling with grades, it’s often not in a single subject. If all the grades are down, we have something else going on not just a lack of understanding of the subject. If it is a single subject, like math, then the student can get a tutor or put in a little extra time and the grade will move up.
When a student starts training in martial arts one of the first things we teach is how to focus. What to focus on. Why focus is important. And we have over 27 different techniques in the basic program that enforces and builds their ability to stay on task and finish what they started.
This alone can improve their grades. In fact, we see it all the time.
This is an example of the law of unintended consequences. The student came to get in shape and learn some superhero moves, and their grades start to go up.
Right after they learn to focus, we move into discipline. Without getting into it, this also helps them make the grade.
Parents, if your child is struggling with good grades, and it is not just one subject, there is a method to help your child get ahead and learn some really useful things along the way. Like respect. Patience. How to listen. Self-belief. Fitness. Socializing skills. Bully prevention. Just to name a few.
You don’t have to struggle alone. If you want to learn more about our martial arts program, check out our website or give us a call and come down and talk or even put your child into a free class or two and see what I mean about the law of unintended consequences.
Respectfully,
Master Jones
