Your biggest parenting success?
Your child’s independence.
We are not always going to be there for our children. They need to stand on their own two feet and make their own life decisions. Fostering independence early on can help your child become an independent and responsible child.
What does an independent child do that a dependent child does not? Here are a few things
- The ability to make decisions by themselves
- Standing up for themselves
- Taking responsibility
- Understanding what failure is and how to deal with it to grow
Of course, there are many other traits that help a person become independent. Confidence being one of the main ones.
At the academy, one of our goals is to have the child learn how to be independent and confident and why it’s a good trait to have. We teach them to take responsibility for what they can do. We teach them to learn how to take feedback to grow. How actions have consequences and why being proactive is always better than reactive.
Even though an independent child can cause parents some stress, the alternative is not all that great, so we must do our part in teaching the child how to stand on their own two feet.
